Gartner Peer Insights Customers’ Choice

What is Gartner Peer Insights Customers’ Choice?

Gartner Peer Insights is a robust enterprise IT product and service review platform that hosts more than 285,000 verified customer reviews across 430 defined markets. In markets where there is enough data, Gartner Peer Insights recognizes up to top seven vendors that are the most highly rated by their customers through the Gartner Peer Insights Customers’ Choice distinction. This peer-rated distinction can be a useful complement to expert opinion, as it focuses on direct peer experiences of implementing and operating a solution.

How does Gartner Peer Insights Customers’ Choice impact me?

The Gartner Peer Insights Customers’ Choice recipients are designated with a badge next to their organizations name for a full year, or until the next announcement in the market is made. Because Gartner Peer Insights is a free, public review platform, all prospects, customers, competitors, and readers of the site are able to see the vendors who are Gartner Peer Insights Customers’ Choice recipients. Those that are designees are able to leverage the official Gartner Peer Insights Customers’ Choice badge across all external marketing materials in perpetuity, at no cost.

The Gartner Peer Insights Customers’ Choice designees are also highlighted throughout the Gartner Peer Insights Voice of the Customer Gartner research document, which will be published for a specific market after the Customers’ Choice designees are announced. This Gartner research document complements the expert research and was developed as an additional resource for end-users in their buying process.

What should I do to plan for my upcoming Customers’ Choice?

Over the last year, our team has developed key milestones and best practices that our most successful vendors take to achieve the Customers’ Choice distinction year over year. The following is a “formula” that will guide your team to success:

Understand the criteria and dates for your markets:

  • Find your markets on your upcoming Customers’ Choice Roadmap
    • Note the dates for review eligibility, when your official standings in the market will populate, and the last day reviews can be submitted for consideration
    • The calendar for a Customers’ Choice announcement is based entirely on the research publication calendar. After the MQ or MG publishes, the Customers’ Choice will be announced 4 months later. If the MQ or MG is delayed, the Customers’ Choice will be delayed accordingly. We will not run a Customers’ Choice until the new research publishes
  • Read through and understand the Customers’ Choice Methodology: Ensure that all teams that will be involved with Customers’ Choice also understand the Methodology
  • Get your key stakeholders involved early: When they understand the impact of Customers’ Choice, they will advocate for the resources you need to achieve Customers’ Choice. Set yourself up for success by involving them early and creating a plan of action they can be on board with

4 months out from sourcing deadline:

Over the last year, our team has developed key milestones and best practices that our most successful vendors take to achieve the Customers’ Choice distinction year over year. The following is a “formula” that will guide your team to success:

Understand the criteria and dates for your markets:

    • Confirm that your corresponding MQ or MG has published or is on track to publish in the month

In some cases, MQ/MG’s publication is delayed. If the MQ/MG is delayed and is published in the next month, then your dates for Customers’ Choice will also slide back 1 month accordingly

  • See where you currently stand and determine how many more reviews you need to reach the minimum 50 reviews for Customers’ Choice
    • Go to your Reviews tab in the Technology Provider Tools and filter reviews by specific market, date range (starting with the review eligibility start date found on the Roadmap), and exclude Legacy products and reviews from less than $50M revenue
    • This filter will give you an idea of how many total reviews you have that currently meet the eligibility criteria, and your rating from those reviews
  • Create a plan to source those missing reviews from your customers over the next 16 weeks
  • Be on the lookout for any email updates from our team
  • During this time and over the next few weeks our market alignment team will audit the market to ensure that all products/markets are aligned appropriately prior to Customers’ Choice officially being launched

Note: In some markets, multiple vendors reach the minimum 50 reviews threshold. In these markets, we always suggest sourcing as many diverse reviews as possible. Include in your plan a target # of reviews to hit that is greater than 50.

3 months out from sourcing deadline:

  • Ensure that your internal teams understand the impact of Customers’ Choice
    • If you have not, connect with your executives and other internal partners to explain what Customers’ Choice is and how it will impact your presence on the site, as well as how the data will be used to generate the Voice of the Customer research report
    • Communicate with key stakeholders (CMO, AR, CEO, Customer Success) where you stand now vs. how many reviews you need to hit the 50 mark so that they can be brought in and plan for outreach to customers appropriately
  • Check that you have sourcing programs in place and that you are on target to hit the minimum requirements for your market

2 months out from sourcing deadline:

  • Our team officially confirms Customers’ Choice for your market
    • Your team will be notified via email that this market is officially going for Customers’ Choice. Connect with your aligned Program Manager to ensure that the correct contacts receive this email notification
    • At this point, we announce the market average to meet or exceed
  • Check your Customers’ Choice standings page to see your official eligibility
    • From here until the last day for reviews are able to be submitted, the information in your standings page is updated once daily
    • The standings page highlights exactly what you need to do to be able to be a Customers’ Choice, will outline how your reviews apply to the Methodology, and will also tell you how many other competitors have already met the criteria
  • Finalize any outreach strategies over the next 8 weeks
    • Ensure it is agreed on and actioned by all teams involved
    • Meet with key stakeholders and update them on how many reviews you will need to be a Customers’ Choice, what the competitive landscape looks like, etc.

1 month out from sourcing deadline:

    • Read and action all email notifications and updates sent

We send follow up emails from the time of the standings page going live through the sourcing deadline

  • Check your standings page once a week and adjust strategy accordingly
  • The number of eligible Customers’ Choice designees can change in a day, due to reviews being submitted, moderated, and published for you and other competitors in the market
  • Ensure that the targets that you previously created are still accurate

2 weeks out from sourcing deadline:

    • Frequently check into the standings page

Is your market in a tie-breaker and are you one of the top 7? Have you reached the minimum threshold to be eligible?
If you have not met eligibility, keep sourcing. If you have, we still suggest sourcing as many reviews as possible. Remember, as the reviews are being submitted for you and for your competitors, the standings can change in a second, which is especially true during the last 2 weeks of sourcing.

2-3 days prior to sourcing deadline:

  • Ensure you look at your standings page and see if you need any additional reviews to be eligible
Use the next 2 days to pull out all the stops to get reviews submitted

Note: Reviews just need to be submitted by the end of the day, not approved. As long as the review is submitted by your customers prior to 11:59pm ET on the day of the submission deadline, it will count towards your eligibility even if it is published later.

After sourcing closes, what happens?

    • Our team will fully moderate all reviews submitted by the deadline and will audit the market, products, and reviews to ensure that every review that counts towards Customers’ Choice eligibility is legitimate
    • We will then determine the Customers’ Choice designees
    • About mid-month, our team will reach out to the Customers’ Choice designees 1 week prior to the announcement going live on the Gartner Peer Insights site
    • If you are a Customers’ Choice designee and are notified, you will be in the embargo. You should use this time to create and prepare promotional marketing materials. (link)

Please note, all marketing materials must be submitted to the Gartner Quote Requests team prior to the materials going live. The approval process typically takes 2-3 business days

  • The Customers’ Choice designees will then go live on Gartner Peer Insights, typically this is the third week of the announcement month
  • Shortly after the Customers’ Choice designees are announced, you will receive a courtesy draft preview of the Voice of the Customer document for your team to review, about 1 week prior to the Voice of the Customer publishing live within Gartner research
