Gartner Peer Insights Defined ‘Categories’ Methodology

Gartner Peer Insights Defined ‘Categories’ Methodology

Last Updated: September 1, 2022

Gartner Peer Insights is Gartner’s peer-driven community and reviews platform for technology end-users to share their experiences. Gartner Peer Insights is organized into communities of verified technology leaders, as well as a carefully moderated ratings and reviews function, for enterprise software and services. This ensures the absence of commercial influence and provides the best possible reviews, Q&A, and networking opportunities. Gartner Peer Insights has 400+ software and services markets/categories sheltering over 18,000 products and services.

Understanding How Markets and Categories Are Defined Methodology

On Gartner Peer Insights, markets and categories are both collections of software or services of comparable products or service offerings. The difference between markets and categories is how they are defined and where the definitions first appear. Experts within Gartner Research define the markets they are focusing coverage on at a given point in time. These market definitions are published in Magic Quadrant and Market Guide documents. Through end-user feedback, we know there is a desire to learn about peer experiences with other products and vendors beyond these Gartner Research-defined markets. To that end, Gartner Peer Insights creates and defines categories in other technology and business areas.

Opening New Categories on Peer Insights

In keeping with our goal to expand Gartner Peer Insights to cover more technology and business areas, we are opening new categories regularly. Categories on Gartner Peer Insights will cover space beyond expert-defined markets linked to Magic Quadrants and Market Guides.

If your product does not fit into one of the markets currently offered on Peer Insights, or if you are looking to add a new product but cannot find a suitable category, then you can submit your category suggestions to ensure your organization is wholly represented on Gartner Peer Insights.

As we expand categories on our platform, we invite you to submit category suggestions for consideration.

Submit your new category suggestion here.

Please Note: Submitting a request does not guarantee the category will be listed. Determining which categories are added to the platform is at the discretion of Gartner Peer Insights. The categories on Peer Insights are opened after evaluating the value to the end-users.

Product Inclusion and Removal Criteria in a Category

Product addition process: The categories follow the same procedure as any other MQ/MG market on Peer Insights. The vendors can raise an add-product request from their TPT (Technology Provider Tools) portal to get added to the categories. To get the request approved, the product must meet all the features of the requested category and must have enterprise customers.

Product removal process: A product/service listing may be removed from a Peer Insights market only if it meets one of the following conditions:

  • Upon evaluation, if a product or service does not meet all the capabilities of a market/category listed as mandatory.
  • The product is no longer for sale, as verified by Peer Insights based on publicly available information.

In all other cases, the product will continue to be listed on Peer Insights and available for review.

Please refer to our Listing Guidelines for more details.

Voice of the Customer (VOC) Document for Peer Insights Defined Categories Methodology

The Gartner Peer Insights “Voice of the Customer” is a Gartner document that synthesizes Gartner Peer Insights’ content in a specific market/category. Currently, VOCs are not published for categories. However, this may change in the future. Watch this space for the latest updates.
