Site Star Rating Calculation Update

ACTIVE

Last Updated: Feb, 2021

We are updating the site scoring to provide a better end user experience and improve our search engine optimization.
The current default view of review count and average rating is based only on reviews submitted in the past 12 months, with the associated filter enabled by default (see below). Current site display: As a result of this default filter and display, search engines are not showcasing all your reviews in their search results: Based on feedback gathered from both end users and vendors, we are adjusting the default scoring view on the site.  The new default view will include all reviews but older reviews will have progressively less weight (drop by half each year).  More specifically, the new default star rating will factor in all reviews, with reviews older than 12 months weighted progressively less. The weighting of reviews will decrease by half every 12 months, e.g.:
  • Reviews 0-12 months old will be weighted 100%
  • Reviews 12-24 months old will be weighted 50%
  • Reviews 24-36 months old will be weighted 25%
  • Etc.
This update will also be accommodated by a tooltip to explain the default rating, and users will still have the ability to click the checkbox to see the 12-month filtered view. These changes will improve our user experience, align Peer Insights with industry common practice, and increase traffic to the site and vendor pages.  These changes are currently planned to go live in February 2021.
