We announced in March that the artist formerly known as the Magic Quadrant for Cloud IaaS was evolving by expanding the scope of coverage and thus changing its name to the Magic Quadrant for Cloud Infrastructure and Platform Services.
I am happy to note that the CIPS MQ published last week after a slight delay. I lead the Magic Quadrant and Dennis Smith leads the accompanying “Critical Capabilities for CIPS” which measures the cloud providers against a set of capabilities and use cases. We were greatly assisted by Bob Gill, Kevin Ji and David Wright as co-authors.
But we wouldn’t have been able to pull off an endeavor as massive as the CIPS MQ/CC without a broad team of analysts that contributed directly to the process. Thousands of individual data points were used as input to scoring including market share data, technical capabilities assessments, and feedback from thousands of end-user inquiries as a few of the examples.
Part of the broader team that contributed to the MQ/CC includes analysts in our Gartner for Technical Professionals and Technology and Service Provider practices.
The CIPS MQ and CC are unique in terms of Gartner Magic Quadrants in that we have integrated our research across practices end-to-end. In particular, the Solution Scorecards produced by GTP act as input into the CIPS MQ and CC.
Shout-out to the authors of the (currently published) GTP documents:
