Flipping to Digital Leadership

By Graham Waller | October 06, 2014 | 0 Comments

I had the opportunity to unveil the highlights from our 2015 CIO Survey at the Gartner Symposium/ITxpo in Orlando today. The exciting news is that as ‘digital moves to center stage,’ CIOs and business technology leaders have a fabulous opportunity to play an impactful digital leadership role for their enterprise. The catch: 75% of respondents believe they will have to change their leadership style to seize this opportunity.

The 2015 CIO Agenda; Flipping to Digital Leadership identified the need for many CIOs to flip three fundamental beliefs and behaviors:

1) Information & Technology Leadership; from legacy first to digital first
2) Value Leadership; from what’s visible to what’s valuable
3) People and Culture Leadership; from control-led to vision-led

It has been said that today’s market is a terrible time to play catch-up, but a wonderful time to leapfrog. As ‘digital moves to center stage’, it is a terrible time to think incrementally, but a wonderful time to be bold and flip key aspects of leadership. Where ever you are on your personal leadership journey, I challenge you to identify one specific area ripe for flipping. And then to make sure you flip it. What will it be?
