I’ve managed the Application Platform Strategies (APS) team in Gartner for Technical Professionals (GTP) for almost 5 years. During that time, the demand from Gartner clients for technical research that accelerates “time to competency” for technical professionals responsible for architecting, implementing, integrating and operating bespoke software platforms and solutions has only grown. Our team has doubled in size and we now stand at 10 analysts.
But the demand for similar research on packaged applications – Enterprise Apps like Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Human Capital Management (HCM) – has grown even more. In fact, markets for this type of software are growing faster than ever, spurred on in part by SaaS and Digital Business. Enterprises are buying more software than ever and that is not a trend that is likely to abate anytime soon. And yet.. for the technical professional responsible for architecting, implementing, customizing, integrating, updating, patching and operating these solutions, Gartner, and in fact the IT analyst industry as a whole, has offered precious little.
now very soon. That’s because I’m happy to say that we are launching an Enterprise Apps for Technical Professionals research practice in GTP. Based on an extensive customer survey, we understand that while both CRM and ERP are of high importance to technical professionals involved in applications projects, CRM is the hotter item today for a majority of organizations. We’re a customer-driven organization. So we’re going where customers want us to and I am happy to say that you have an opportunity to be a part of this.
