Elise Olding – First Blog Post

by Elise Olding  |  July 28, 2010  |  7 Comments

This is my first blog entry!!!! Over the past few years I have guest blogged in Jim Sinur’s blog.

However, it’s time for my own! I tend to tweet – but sometimes there’s just more to say than 140 characters will allow! So, just to kick things off some things about me:

I’ve been with Gartner three years. It’s wonderful to meet people from so many different companies around the globe and share perspectives. I’m currently focusing on social BPM and organizational change and also cover the discipline of BPM, the business process competency center and getting started with BPM. Exciting topics!

Prior to my gig here I worked in many of the SF Bay Area’s leading companies: Levi Strauss, Charles Schwab, Safeway and Wells Fargo Bank, just to name a few. I have done consulting at Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), California State Automobile Insurance (CSAA), Cisco and some startup companies. I guess I would be categorized as a change agent and someone who makes order out of chaos – I thrive on new stuff and love the organizational dynamics and challenges that are part of making a change. That’s been a theme throughout my career.

I live in Oakland, CA and am a UC Berkeley alum. I am addicted to chocolate and try to keep it out of the house! I’m a foodie and lucky to live in the Bay Area with the great farmer’s markets and fresh produce. The neighborhood where I live has a wonderful market on Sundays. I’m there whenever I’m not traveling, picking up seasonal produce. The peaches and nectarines right now are to die for!

I scuba dive and my most recent trip was in Turks and Caicos where I was diving with a whale. They are spectacular creatures with an eerie song. Please share any wonderful diving spots – I’m always looking for great diving locations. More locally I bike and hike.

The best thing about my job is getting to interact with YOU! Expect challenging thoughts and emerging ideas from my blog. Please comment and keep the dialogue going. Let me know any topics that you are interested in as well. I’m excited to be joining the Gartner Blogger Network and look forward to hearing from you.

Thoughts on Elise Olding – First Blog Post

  1. Hi there. I am interested in Gartner’s ideas about the emergence of so-called fourth-generation collaboration services, such as interactive virtual environments. Some say they are “transforming the way enterprise users interact.” Agree? Disagree?

Thanks, look forward to your comments too!

  4. Elise Olding says:

Absolutely. Matt Cain and Bern Elliot are working on a presentation for Symposium on this topic. Carol Rozwell and I are working on the people aspects – what we call “organizational liquidity.” Our expanded research note comes out mid-August. The old hierarchical command and control model of the past needs to be changed.

  5. Elise. Best of luck in your journey! Great job and keep it up.

  6. Wow, Elise, great to know this side of you – Chocolates, food, diving,… :)
