My name is Don Scheibenreif and I have been a Gartner Analyst since September 2010. In my coverage I help the IT professionals who work with Marketing at Consumer Goods and Life Sciences companies around the world. Specifically, I advise them on how their companies can leverage technology to connect and engage their consumers or patients in meaningful ways.

I am a career marketer, and I did not grow up in IT. Gartner represents a career change for me. Before joining Gartner, I spent 22 years a marketing leader for blue chip companies like Quaker Oats, Coca-Cola, True Value, and Grainger. I even did a stint at an agency, Draftfcb, working on Burger King. Needless to say, I have seen and experienced Marketing from many different angles on the client side. I had no idea who Gartner was before they found me. Since joining, I have come to appreciate the important work of our IT clients and how Gartner provides a unique value in the landscape of professional services firms.

Why blog now?

I think it is important for us to use the tools that we ask our clients to use. But to be honest, I am a bit of a late bloomer. I am one of those people that generally doesn’t speak up in meetings unless I have something meaningful to say. I try to listen a lot more than I talk. As I have been learning my new profession, authoring over 45 documents on a wide range of topics, speaking on dozens of occasions, and having spent time with hundreds of our clients, I feel I am ready to use this tool as part of the way we communicate with and add value to the work of our clients.

I’ll share what I can on the research on which I am working, because I value input from others I’ll share random observations on marketing, the industries I cover, and events I attend or speak at My posts will be brief and I will ask questions Like all good bloggers, I will try to add value in exchange for your time
