Your Career

You’ve got this, Grads! Words of Wisdom From The Gartner Team

As university students around the world are wrapping up their final moments, these new graduates are preparing for the next chapter in their lives. To help them put their best foot forward, we asked our associates to provide their best piece of advice. Here is what they had to say:

Ask questions! Don’t worry about what others think. Show your curiosity and use that knowledge to get better at everything you do.” – Jennifer Wolter, GVP Global Sales Comms

“No matter what role you have over the course of your career, be certain to learn every possible detail of it, and aim to be as good as you can at the job – beginning with your first job.  You never know when any of your acquired knowledge will be valuable in another role.  Don’t underestimate the power of your accumulated experience.” – Jason Odgen, HT Sales Specialist

“Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there just because you are new! Set up those meetings, message those people you want to, and go the extra mile in making those relationships. It will be worth it when you look back on the first few months of your career – become comfortable in doing something that might seem uncomfortable!” – Sirisha Karra, MSE HT GTS Account Manager

“Attitude is everything. Show up, listen, be humble, and you will go far!” – Theresa Ryan, VP, Program Management R&A

“Focus on your current job; put in the effort, learn, and excel at it.  That is the best way to advance your career.” – Mike Ryan, GVP Sales

“Being adaptable to changing environments and finding creative ways to provide additional value beyond your job requirements is one of the best ways to accelerate growth. Take time to invest in yourself to understand what you are best at and how you can leverage those skills to fuel your career.” – Kyle McMillen, MSE Account Manager, GTS

“Don’t worry if you don’t know exactly what you want to do yet. Take advantage of working on different projects and with different teams – you’ll start figuring out where your interests lie.” – Ali Reuter, Associate Director, Recruiting Operations & Programs

Be open minded to learn, network, and build a positive brand for yourself, the opportunities here are limitless.” – Arin Mukhopadhyay, VP Consulting
