How an Interview for an Internship Turned Anjani Bhatia’s Career Around

February 11, 2021

I appeared for a Gartner interview for an internship program in 2016 but little did I know, I was in for a pleasant surprise. In the middle of the interview, the panel quickly discussed among themselves then asked me the golden question- ‘Would you be interested in joining us as a full-time employee rather than an intern?’ I immediately accepted the offer and there’s been no looking back ever since.

I joined Gartner at a nascent stage of my career. But, this provided me with the perfect playground to unleash my potential. Initially, I worked with the data management team but was always keen to join the Analytics team. Before long, I earned a promotion and transitioned to the Analytics team. Even though there were initial challenges, I was always supported by my team lead. I feel so privileged to have worked with an amazing set of minds and leaders. Gartner always placed its associates’ well-being as its utmost priority.

I’ve always appreciated that Gartner bestows trust in its associates – like me for example. I was given ample opportunities to grow, both professionally and personally.  Within a year of working with the Analytics team, I was entrusted with hosting an internship program. The success of this program empowered me to leverage my skills, knowledge, and experience and apply my decision-making instincts to real-world scenarios. Through this program, I was also allowed to decide if some of those interns would join the Gartner team as full-time associates. This was a huge responsibility and a very rewarding experience for me.

Working for a company that invests in its people motivates me to keep challenging myself. When hard work is recognized and rewarded, I feel more fulfilled and eager to take on more. Most recently, I was promoted to Senior Specialist with the added responsibility of mentoring the new team members to help them quickly get up to speed and reach their full potential – ultimately driving greater business outcomes.  Seeing my team succeed gives me a great sense of accomplishment and a deeper appreciation for those who have helped shape me into who I am today.  I’ve learned to take advantage of the resources available to me so I can work to become a more successful, well-respected leader.

Now looking back, I can say without a doubt that joining Gartner has been a conducive journey in the last 5 years and I’m very much excited about what’s in store for the future.
