Below, Lucia Yang, Senior business development Manager in China shares about her journey and what it takes to be successful.

October 29, 2020

I joined Gartner as an Account Executive back in 2014.  I had the opportunity to work with some of the largest financial institutions in China.  The role helped me build a solid foundation – knowledge, and relationships that have enabled me to continue advancing my career. After 2 years, I was promoted to a Team Leader, then a Sales Manager in 2018. After earning the coveted Eagle award and coaching 2 Eagle Account Executives, I was promoted to Senior Sales Manager and was assigned to lead the Pioneer Business Development (BD) team in 2019. I celebrated my 6 year anniversary with Gartner in September 2020.

Why Gartner?

There are some really amazing people here.   Our team, for example – I simply love working with them. Together we overcome challenges and achieve our goals. The culture that Gartner has adhered to is worth mentioning. There is a sense of belonging, which you seldom find anywhere else. On a more personal note, Gartner has honored my family throughout these years which has given me a complete sense of fulfillment.

What makes our team successful?

Our sales team is full of passion, drive, and positive energy. The ‘never-give-up’ attitude has helped us tackle a lot of challenges while helping our clients solve theirs. Let’s not forget all the hard work that goes in every step of the way and believing that if we ‘do the right things, great results will follow’.

To be successful in our team, you must possess these qualities:

  • Will-to-win attitude and drive to push the possibilities of the role
  • Ability to embrace change
  • Resilience to bounce back when faced with adversity
  • Curious and bold enough to challenge the status quo

Over the past six years, I’ve coached my team to work hard, hold themselves accountable, and continue to seek new opportunities.  As a result, they’ve consistently delivered on their goals – ultimately helping our clients achieve theirs.
