There’s a very clichéd thing that a lot of people say when they are speaking about their job: “It’s the people that make this such an amazing place to work.” At Gartner, this is absolutely true. I’ve worked in our Sydney office since 2016 and from day 1 have been surrounded by incredibly smart, driven and creative colleagues.
Not only have they been successful in their professional careers, but they’d all also accomplished amazing feats of endurance/skill (swimming the English Channel and completing 3 marathons in 3 days across the Sahara Desert, to name just 2!) I guess it makes sense — resilience, persistence and a strong mind are key to a successful career in sales.
These people have inspired me to take up my own sporting journey — transitioning over the past three years from a casual, 2km jogger to a triathlete, with 3 half marathons and a full marathon thrown in the middle! Every single one of these events was trained for, and completed, with at least one of my Gartner colleagues, which is testament to the team spirit, strong friendships and shared passions that grow with a career at Gartner.
Another great perk of working at Gartner? Everyone here is supportive of one another. For the triathlon, my colleagues and I had a target to raise $1,800 each for the National Breast Cancer Foundation — no mean feat! We ran Trivia Nights in the office, inviting our colleagues to challenge their general knowledge and win the most prestigious prize of all — PRIDE. These nights were an incredible success, with most of the $5,400 target coming from a Gartner associate donation. The best thing about that is that via the Gartner Gives program, Gartner will match all employee donations, effectively doubling our impact.
In short, these wonderful people have helped me to achieve more than I ever thought possible in my time at Gartner, both professionally and personally — and who knows what the next few years will bring!
