Make an Impact with Your Work on Gartner’s Digital Markets Team

Meet Kelsey Dornfeld, Market Research Specialist on the Gartner Digital Markets team, who works in our Arlington office. Below, she shares why she joined the Gartner team and how she is able to explore her passion for research and learning through her work.

Prior to joining Gartner, I earned my bachelor’s degree in communications and marketing from American University in Washington, D.C. Throughout college, I held various internships that eventually led to my decision to stay in the D.C. area after graduation. I began my career in account management at a market research firm, but eventually realized the research side was better aligned with my skills and interests.

Throughout my time working in the market research field, I became familiar with the Gartner name and the company’s impressive reputation. When I discovered the market research specialist opportunity at Gartner Digital Markets (GDM), I was immediately captivated. This role sparked my interest because it combined my passion for market research with the opportunity to learn more about the software industry.

My role at GDM mainly focuses on contributing to branded research reports across our three software buying sites including Capterra’s Top 20s, Software Advice’s FrontRunners, and GetApp’s Category Leaders. These reports rank and recognize top software systems across more than 50 categories, with report methodology and format varying across the three sites. One similarity between the three reports is that they each utilize user reviews to aid in determining eligibility and placement.

As part of the report production process, I also assist with survey creation, vendor communication and methodology copy for the sites. The opportunity to become well versed in numerous software categories has been valuable to me, as I have worked on reports across a variety of software categories including help desk, mental health and applicant tracking, to name a few.

Besides the incredible professional learning opportunities, I have also become immersed in the international Gartner Digital Markets community, which includes offices in Arlington, Austin, Barcelona, and Gurgaon. These connections have proven to be valuable and have helped further develop my understanding of the software industry from various perspectives.

Although I have only been with Gartner for just over one year, I have appreciated my time here and look forward to future learning opportunities within the company. I am currently an M.B.A. candidate at George Mason University and hope to use my education in my role at Gartner as I develop my market and product research skills down the road. I see many future opportunities at Gartner as I continue my career journey.
