Are you interested in joining Gartner’s growing team in Gurgaon, India? Below, Sankaralingam Dushyant, Quantitative Analyst on our data science team, shares his story of how he joined Gartner just over one year ago and his career advice for others looking to join the team.
Having just completed a year in my role here at Gartner, I can already look back and feel proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish in such a short time. The personal and professional growth that I have experienced has been wonderful, as I have felt supported from Day 1.
While attending IIT Kharagpur, I was contacted by a member of Gartner’s recruiting team in December 2017, during our college’s placement season. The recruiter gave me some background about the organization and explained that I had all the skills required for a position on the data science team. Although I had a technical background, I wasn’t as familiar with the corporate world as I thought I needed to be, but I was reassured that I would be given every opportunity to learn, grow and develop at Gartner.
Once on the team, I joined a two-week training program that onboards newly hired associates by providing them with the skills needed for success. The training program gave me the chance to develop my skills in a fast-paced manner, without feeling overwhelmed. Each member of the training program was assigned a mentor, who closely monitored our projects while giving us the opportunity to ask questions. Our mentors challenged us to learn and provided the guidance needed to succeed.
When assigned to my first project after joining the team, I was able to gain exposure to unfamiliar topics and skills, as well as new aspects of operations. Early in my career with Gartner, I was given the opportunity to work with new technologies and learn from my team — something completely foreign to an inexperienced college graduate. During this time, I was able to learn more about the business impact I was making and develop new skills in communication and project management. Gartner is without a doubt the best place for me to start my corporate journey, and it could be for you, too.
