Interested in learning more about what it’s like to join the sales team? Alex Jones, a Senior Account Executive, is sharing what it’s like to work on the Gartner sales team in our Egham office below.
Describe your job in 25 words or less: My job is to provide senior business leaders across high-tech vendors and service providers with the right insight at the right time to help reduce time to revenue and accelerate growth.
What originally attracted you to Gartner? I was originally attracted to Gartner by the brand name. There is no denying that Gartner is a very strong brand. It is seen across many corporate companies as a world-class sales organization. I was also attracted by the market-leading sales training and coaching.
What are 3 words that best describe Gartner? Collaborative, development, objective
What has been your proudest moment at Gartner? My proudest moment at Gartner was hitting the Winners Circle last year. I got the chance to go on an all-expense-paid trip to Monte Carlo! I managed to qualify for the trip by working hard and constantly doing all the things I was taught throughout training, which is designed to set you up for success.
What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most? The aspect that I enjoy the most is the fact that I get to speak with C-level executives on a daily basis. I enjoy this for two reasons. First, I get to develop my own skills faster than I could in other roles. Second, it is a fantastic networking opportunity for me. I am able to build a strong network of successful people, at such a young age.
What advice would you give to recent new hires? Be like a sponge. Forget all that you have learned before and be ready to learn a lot more. Embrace the coaching and development opportunities that Gartner will provide and put them into practice at every opportunity you get.
If you could interview one person (dead or alive) who would it be and why? Sir Alex Ferguson — I’m a Manchester United fan. I think it would be incredible to understand how he consistently led his team to global success across 25 years. It would be great to learn about the different elements you need to be developing and innovating within to ensure your team will always be successful. He also would have some incredible behind-the-scenes stories that he could share.
What are 3 words that best describe you? Driven, fun, hard-working
If you could switch your job for a day, with anyone else within Gartner whose job would you choose and why? Gene Hall — It would be amazing to see some of the things he works on daily and some of the critical elements involves in running a multi-billion dollar global enterprise.
