Below, Fredrik Hallberg, an Account Executive in our Egham office, answers a few questions about what his life at Gartner is like.
Describe your job in 25 words or less: My main responsibility as an Account Executive is to work with C-level executives within emerging technology providers, in order to help them to achieve their growth targets.
What originally attracted you to Gartner? I think the thing that attracted me to Gartner was the pace at which the business moves. I knew I would be working in a business that challenges me, connects me with talented, like-minded people and gives me great exposure to C-level executives.
What is your favorite part about working for Gartner? I really enjoy the steep learning curve that comes with joining Gartner. From Day 1, you are enrolled in the seven-week sales academy. There is a lot to learn here, but it really does set you up for success. I knew that I wanted to get a quick start to my career and Gartner has been able to provide me with this.
How has Gartner helped you in your career development? Gartner has really helped to improve my business acumen and my understanding of the sales environment. I now have a very clear understanding of how to run an effective sales cycle and how to sell effectively to prospective clients.
What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most? I enjoy the versatility of my role. In some companies, you will either work with existing clients or you will be responsible for bringing on new clients. Here I get to do both. I am able to build my skills of account management while also learning more about business development and how to bring new clients to the business.
What advice would you give to recent new hires? The best piece of advice that I can give to new hires is to use your peers as much as possible. Don’t be afraid to ask for advice and feedback, in order to continuously improve.
If you could interview one person (dead or alive) who would it be and why? It would have to be Barack Obama. I am really interested to learn about how he managed to lead one of the largest countries in the world.
What is one thing unique about you that people would be surprised if they knew? I am very competitive. In everything — from working on a large deal, right down to small team competitions, I get way too invested.
If you could switch your job with anyone else within Gartner whose job would you want and why? I would swap my role with CFC (contract negotiations). It sounds like a very complex but interesting role. A lot of senior sales people move into this role and I would be interested to see how it all works.
