Get To Know Gartner: Meet Pat Webster

Pat webster professional picAre you interested in joining Gartner’s sales team? We recently sat down with Pat Webster, Account Executive, from our Egham, U.K. office for a question and answer session about his role on the sales team and his life at Gartner. See below for Pat’s answers:

Describe your job in 25 words or less: My role gives me a lot of responsibility and exposure to a wide range of clients. I have been given responsibility from Day 1. The training during my first seven weeks was fantastic. It has enabled me to speak with business leaders and learn a lot from them. I will be able to apply that knowledge to a business of my own one day.

How has Gartner helped you in your career development? Again, I would say that the sales academy has definitely helped me a lot in my career development. It has taught me a huge amount about process and organization, which are essential to being successful in sales. And my time management, presentation and listening skills have developed exponentially since going live on the sales floor. These skills are applicable to any future leadership role, which is something I would like to pursue.

What advice do you have for prospective Gartner candidates? Prepare for role plays. They can feel slightly awkward and stilted at times. Trying to coast by is a big mistake, make sure you are prepared. Ask open questions and clarify everything you hear.

What are 3 words that best describe Gartner? Collaborative, inclusive, ambitious

Pat team picWhat aspect of your role do you enjoy the most? I enjoy developing good relationships with key clients. It is definitely rewarding to see the positive impact you can have on a business. It feels good when they value your input and Gartner’s services.

What advice would you give to recent new hires? Spend time getting to know our product list properly. It is complicated and there is often a much better solution or a creative way to get pricing for your customer’s needs, which can be missed unless you do homework during academy.

If you were to write a book about yourself, what would you name it? The importance of planning.

What are 3 words that best describe you? Enthusiastic, friendly and driven.

What is one thing unique about you that people would be surprised if they knew? I can hold my breath for 5 minutes 45 seconds.

Favorite Quote or Personal Mantra: “Que sera sera.”
