Hey! My name is Hitesh Guleria and I grew up in Himachal, Northern India — a place surrounded by the Himalayas. I am a well-qualified computer science engineer who loves to work in broad functional areas. I like to aim high and reach the very top, hence I’m obsessed with mountains and a keen mountain climber.
I started with Gartner almost 2 years back as an Event Attendance Specialist (EAS) with an aim to learn, make money and grow into a leadership role. Oh boy, the support that I received from my leadership team was incredible. It felt like my manager, my manager’s manager and our functional head all wanted me to be successful and grow within Gartner. The amount of attention they put into each individual is commendable. I haven’t seen such a work environment anywhere else, but at the same time you should have that drive, that sense of purpose, to reach where you want to be. As a result, I got promoted into a leadership role to head the India EAS team, 1 year and 6 months into the EAS role.
My job is not a job for me because when you do what you love, you never work a day in your life. It’s a great responsibility to develop great Event Attendance Specialists, to be able to help my team develop professionally and personally and grow within Gartner. And the exposure that you get to people in Gartner is exemplary. Our thought-provoking analysts, our clients who are senior business and technology leaders, and our events that bring everybody together gives us exposure to knowledge and creates an environment of continuous learning.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned while at Gartner is that success is in mindset. Just think about the end result. It doesn’t matter how many difficulties you face, persevere and keep your head high. Expect the best and get it. It works, it’s like magic.
Gartner Events is the fastest-growing business segment for Gartner. To give you an example, one and a half years ago there were only two EAS roles in India and now the head count has increased to six and we have grown substantially revenue wise.
If you are a driven professional with a clear sense of purpose and hunger to learn, this is the right place for you. The EAS role is to give events recommendations to senior technology leaders to help them achieve their goals and deal with challenges they face by clearly understanding their business needs and mission-critical priorities.
