Waj Professional PictureName: Waj Ali

Job Title:  Event Attendance Specialist

Office Location: Egham, U.K.

Describe your job in 25 words or less: Building relationships with CIOs and Senior Executives to advise them on which of our role-based conferences best align with their critical business objectives.

What originally attracted you to Gartner? I was looking for a company to help me build a long-term career and take my skill set to the next level. While I have a background working for some big companies such as BT, it’s always difficult to find a company where you can truly grow and build a long-term career. When I researched Gartner, I fell in love with the simple motto of “Grow with Gartner.”

What is your favorite part about working for Gartner? My favorite part is the ability to speak with clients from different backgrounds all across Europe. I love the fact that I can build personal and professional relationships with senior executives in some of the largest companies in the world, and how understanding and respecting their culture helps me win business and build trust.

What are 3 words that best describe Gartner? Innovative, Passionate, Results-Driven

What has been your proudest moment at Gartner? My proudest moment thus far has been winning Gartner’s prestigious “Sales Person of the Month” award in April, and securing an exclusive parking space for my car for the month.

What advice would you give to recent new hires? Ask, ask, ask! My knowledge of Gartner is always increasing and it wouldn’t be at the level it is today if I didn’t ask questions. I’ve been known to have an inquisitive personality but that’s a positive at Gartner, as everyone is very forthcoming and collaborative. So don’t feel shy to ask any questions.

If you could interview one person (dead or alive) who would it be and why? Tupac Shakur — due to the pure work ethic of the man! I still find it hard to believe that when he died at only 25 years old, he had released a total of 11 albums and starred in 6 movies.

What are 3 words that best describe you? Witty, Empathetic, Driven

What is one thing unique about you that people would be surprised if they knew? Gartner will always be dear to my heart as I started my career here only five days after getting married! I still recall getting a call from my recruiter, Adam Windley, as I was getting ready for my wedding, and he asked if it was a good time to speak. Gartner will help to keep me happily married as I’ll never forget my wedding anniversary!

Favorite Quote or Personal Mantra:  “Tough times don’t last — tough people do.”

“Being respected out of love is greater than being respected out of fear.”
