Job Title: Business Associate, Client Services Rotational Program
Office Location: Egham, U.K.
Describe your job in 25 words or less: Supporting our leadership team and Client Services associates through retention analytics and process improvement to drive business results and deliver higher value to our clients
Why have you decided to apply to Gartner’s Services Rotational Program? Upon my graduation from the University, I was eager to get industry experience while continuing to work on my professional development. By virtue of being a tech geek, the Services Rotational Program offered an opportunity to combine my ambitions with my passions. The program is structured in a number of rotations that are designed to expose you to complex business challenges and equip you with essential skills to succeed as a leader. I am very lucky to be able to work with our senior leadership, who give us continuous feedback and treat us as their business partners. Our managers and business leaders are very passionate about the work that they do, and being able to learn from them is both inspiring and enriching. It is crazy to think how much I’ve been able to learn in a short span of 5 months. Besides, knowing that all of our work contributes to delivering better value to our clients gives a real purpose to everything that we do.
Could you talk about the training and what support have you received at the start of your program? The program kicks off with two-week training designed to equip you with essential product knowledge. In our roles we get exposure to multiple service groups and products, so it is crucial that we understand the basics. This year Gartner also piloted Tailored Rotational Training that is focused on developing our leadership skills, among other key business strengths. On top of that, there is a mentorship program in place. Your mentor will be one of our current Rotational Associates who will help you understand the product you will be working with and get you up to speed. Having that go-to person makes it easy to settle into the group and very comfortable to ask all the burning questions you may have in mind. But our managers take every step to ensure we are succeeding in our roles and continue to provide ongoing support and guidance.
What do you enjoy the most about the program? The people! Our team is a group of incredibly talented and smart individuals who also happen to be very supportive and easygoing people to work with. Our Rotational team is very diverse — we all come from different countries and speak multiple languages. But by working together we are able to learn and help each other grow. Collaboration is one of Gartner’s key values and it really comes into play in the work that we do in our rotations.
What makes the Egham office so special? We are so diverse and international there is a place for everyone! You will constantly hear multiple languages being spoken in the office, cafeteria serving different meals from around the world and teams collaborating together on big projects. Besides, we also just moved into our brand-new office with gym, fitness classes and Starbucks on top of everything. You just can’t beat that.
What advice would you give to someone considering applying for the Services Rotational Development Program? Come prepared — Gartner is a world leader in the IT industry and it is important to have a good understanding of our products and services. Read our research, look up what we are our key values and show that you understand our business environment.
Have a proven record of success — have a number of concrete examples where you’ve demonstrated that you’ve succeed in your role. It doesn’t matter whether this experience was obtained during internships or your involvement in extracurricular activities. You need to show your personality and ambition, and leveraging your past successes could be one of the ways to do that.
