Job Title: Associate Director, EMSE Sales Recruiting
Office Location: Egham, U.K.
How long have you been in the world of recruitment? I’ve been working in recruitment since 2006! My initial role within the industry was, as it is for most, in agency recruitment, and I built start- up desks in both contact center recruitment and senior banking. I moved into in-house/internal recruitment in 2011.
What originally attracted you to Gartner? Gartner is an incredibly impressive brand! The growth of the business is unparalleled and the opportunity for further growth is endless. That was the initial “hook”; however, once I started meeting/interviewing with Gartner employees, I very quickly bought into the fun, friendly and collaborative culture.
Describe your job in 3 words. Challenging, exciting and rewarding.
What is life at Gartner really like? Life at Gartner is truly unique. I have had the opportunity to work for and with some very affluent and prestigious brands during my career, and none quite contend with Gartner and the culture of this business.
It is a very result-driven business and the individuals you meet in Gartner are all incredibly talented at what they do. Coupled with that talent is a genuine interest in supporting each other through collaboration and teamwork. There are no egos at Gartner and as such everyone is happy to go above and beyond what is expected in order to get a result. I have found that very refreshing.
What advice would you give to a candidate who interviews for sales at Gartner? Do a lot of research and ensure you are 110% prepared for your interview process. Our four-stage recruitment methodology is robust and it will challenge you, so ensure you are focused throughout and be curious.
And finally, be yourself and enjoy the experience!
What makes a candidate stand out for you? On first introduction it’s the usual behaviors — a smile and a friendly face, effort made to dress according to the environment and a level of (professional) energy to demonstrate they are excited to be in the Gartner recruitment process.
During the interview process, I am always most bought into candidates who engage with me through strong articulation, thorough explanations and a superior sense of curiosity. Enthusiasm and energy is always contagious, and by combining these traits with business acumen and sales prowess, you’re always going to get my attention.
How did you get to be where you are today? Quite simply through hard work, determination, dedication, resilience and ambition. My career has been one of my top priorities since I joined the workforce and I have always focused on not only my current goals, I focus on my future aspirations and how I am going to achieve them.
What is the biggest challenge you have overcome while at Gartner? The initial learning curve was intense. I was given a lot of information and at a very fast pace. I was overwhelmed at first but looking back now I am amazed by how much I learned and am still learning. I love this challenge!
What advice would you give to graduates who are looking to begin a successful career? Focus and deliver.
Why Gartner for you? Quite simply, the people. My immediate and greater teams make it an absolute pleasure to come into work every day.
