Sales associate teams up with his children and colleagues to support Pieta House
Aaron O’Brien, an associate in Gartner’s Dublin office, along with his daughter and son, joined 4,000 others for the annual Darkness Into Light walk to benefit Pieta House, a suicide and self-harm crisis center.
The annual event helps raise vital funds for the center in addition to raising awareness for this alarming trend.
Self-harming is on the rise in Ireland, according to the National Suicide Research Foundation, as reported in TheJournal.ie, an Irish news website.
Acts of deliberate self-harm are more common in young people, with research showing that one in every five to ten adolescents are affected.
“It was my son’s idea,” explained Aaron. “He came to me a couple of days before the walk wanting to help. This is a cause he feels strongly about and asked me to join him. His sister also wanted to walk.”
A Winning Mindset
The trio rose predawn to brave the chilly night air for the 4:15 a.m. start time and watched the sun rise through the clouds as they walked.
“Within 48 hours, we had not only completed the walk but also raised €350.00 (about US $382.26) with the support of my generous colleagues,” said Aaron. And with the help of the charitable match program, Gartner Gives, Aaron and his family will double the amount raised.
“The money raised will help the center continue providing its lifesaving services at no cost and help broaden its services to reach those who need them,” said Aaron. “I am very proud of my son and daughter for supporting this cause and grateful to my colleagues for their contributions.”
The Gartner associates in the Dublin office represent Sales (Major Accounts) – End User, High Tech & Supply Chain, Executive Programs, Legal, Deal Hub, Research and Operations.
