Recently, a group of women associates participated in a Meet the Company event in Arlington, Virginia, hosted by CEB, now Gartner, and Women in Technology (WIT). Local women professionals were invited to hear from women across the organization about the innovative projects and solutions they are focused on, as well as to discuss the challenges and opportunities of working in the technology industry.

Kristina Alafoginis-Vedder, Head of Enterprise Program Management and WIT board member Irene Lane kicked off the day of knowledge sharing and networking, followed by a presentation by Kris van Riper, Government Practice Leader.

Gender balance in IT

Kris discussed the current state of gender balance in IT and tactics organizations can apply to retain and recruit women in the field. She shared that gender balance is a global concern and by focusing on diversity recruiting, providing work flexibility and conducting manager training, companies can improve the balance.

Supporting women in the workforce

Kristina moderated a panel of associates, who took questions from attendees. The panel included Veena Variyam, Research Director, IT Practice; Lindsay Mutimer, Quant Director, IT Practice; and Erin Rogers, Portfolio Manager, Corporate IT. Questions focused on the specific roles and experiences of the panelists, as well as how the organization supports women in the workforce.

A positive reception

The day ended with a networking reception for attendees to continue the discussion with associates and members of the Talent Acquisition team and to learn more about career opportunities within the organization. Feedback from the event — from both attendees and WIT — was very positive.

Greater Together

Gartner and CEB, now one company, are committed to supporting diversity in the workforce and exploring partnerships and opportunities that help empower women. Gartner recently launched its global Gartner Lean In Circle. This initiative encourages associates to form communities that foster professional development, personal growth and network building, and provide a forum for open and honest discussions.
