Planned Network Infrastructure Research for 2016

We just published the Network Infrastructure primer for 2016, which is basically an outline for the research we plan to publish in 2016. Most folks know about branded research like Hype Cycles and Magic Quadrants, but they represent a small fraction of the written research we produce.  The agenda primer describes the key questions we answer for our clients, including:

  1. What external forces will affect enterprise communications and network infrastructure in the next five years?
  2. What are the best practices and strategies to address the ongoing challenges of communications and network infrastructure?
  3. What new network technologies and products will impact the market?
  4. Which vendors will succeed/fail?

A brief snippet from the primer:

As always, new network vendors will emerge to challenge existing vendors’ business models. In 2016, we anticipate innovation from vendors around low-cost hardware, over-the-top (OTT) delivery of services, commercialized open-source, multivendor management, subscription-based billing, innovative features and new deployment mechanisms.

And just a few examples of planned written research for 2016 include:

  • How to deal with containers on the network
  • How emerging application architectures are changing the data center network and L4-7 service designs
  • The profound impact of IoT on the network
  • The state of SDN in 2016
  • Emerging “Cool Vendors” in enterprise networking

Here’s the link to the full agenda primer:

Planning, Sourcing and Managing Network Infrastructure Primer for 2016
