Information Architecture Joke: 1 of 1 in a Series

I was talking to the folks at Nstein today about their product roadmap and current position. (100+ customers, mostly big media who believe in the value of intelligent content delivery as a business model. Don’t we all? Here in the ITE bunker, anyway.)

Anyway, they said they’ve developed a new taxonomy development and management tool. Who’s gonna use it? I said. How much training?

Well, they said, it’s pretty intuitive. In fact, they’re more worried about users having it be TOO easy. Maybe a poorly educated user could take a decent taxonomy and foul it up, from a structural and intellectual standpoint.

I said, you mean, someone could take a perfectly good taxonomy and make a wretched ontology of it in about five minutes? [rimshot]

We all laughed at that. Which gives you an idea of what it’s like to be a search nerd.
