What baffles me is when people seem to feel that there’s only one way to solve any given technological problem. How do you do math? In your head, sometimes, I bet. And then, sometimes, you get a piece of paper and write out the numbers on the paper, with operands. And then, sometimes, I bet you get a calculator. Or a spreadsheet. Or some other big honking piece of hardware. The problem begets the solution.

Here’s an article — and I’m not saying it takes the one-size-fits-all model approach — that examines this debate that is apparently bubbling somewhere about the Google Search Appliance. You know, this is the thing. Any product — ANY PRODUCT — is right in some circumstances and not in others, just like a math solution strategy. The GSA and the Google Mini are no different. I am working on a revamp, grossly overdue, about the appliance. Anyone who wants to get in touch and discuss, I’m willing to listen.
