In my last post, I noted that I’m starting to use an application at The New York Times (actually, The New York Times is an application to me now) to share what i read. I mentioned to them – and they said they agree, and are working on it – that context is REALLY important here. I just recommended this story on Palin to other readers, but I lack the ability to add even light context around the story. As a Gartner analyst, I try to minimize any reflection of my political leanings, because I need any client I have, whether the White House or the ACLU or the Democrats or Republicans, to know that I am going to treat them with the respect that I treat any client. So, recommending this story might brand me as a Republican, or as a Democrat. It might suggest that I agree with what it says. In fact, that might be true, but the main thing I’m trying to say here is really that I think this is worth reading for a variety of reasons. I need to be able to say more within this app — and enterprises will need that too, as they establish similar sharing apps.

In the same vein, I recommend the http://palinspeak.com/ site for folks interested in applications of statistical language modeling. But that should in no way be considered a reflection of my political leanings or my employer’s.
