See now, Thomas’s example sets up a whole nuther set of issues — namely, human yearnings for taxonomy and their manifestations. Absolutely that’s a factor. Punks with discipline – who knew? London Calling is not really punky – more like Exile on Main Street in the way it dabbles in different genres.
The Clash, the first album – that’s punk.
Sometimes less is more in tech as well as music.
