A growing number of vendors are offering “cloud oriented” load testing solutions to help users deal with load spikes such as holidays and other date driven events such as registration and taxes. The value to the user is only paying for the tools when you need them and an ability to drive a much larger and more accurate load onto the system under test. Combining this together with the ability to create the load from hosted machines also reduces the need to have a large number of test machines that sit idle the majority of the time. As web applications continue to make increased use of rich interface technology more hardware is required to accurately create the load. Look for increased offerings both from mainline vendors as well as smaller innovators during the next year.
