We’ve been having a raging debate internally about the emergence of new working relationships between employers and workers.
We’ve read, for example, that in Germany “According to a survey conducted by the IG Metall union, more than 70 percent of companies in the electrical and metal industry in Baden-Württemberg now use such <temporary, project-based> contracts, replacing the core permanent workforce in more than half of all factories.”
We’ve seen reports from Australia that moving away from permanent employment to temporary work contracts in the construction industries is extremely popular. It allows tradespeople an opportunity to change their personal taxation model (and write off more expenses to boot).
Is this taking place in your industry and in your geography? How does it affect IT provisioning? What long term social implications will it have?
Is this Glory or a Disaster?
