Thursday Session Recap: Are You Ready for an EPMO?
Since 2008, there has been a steady increase in the number of organizations considering establishing an Enterprise Program Management Office (EPMO). In her discussion designed for advanced practitioners, Gartner analyst Donna Fitzgerald explored what an EPMO looks like, how it operates at various stages of organizational maturity, and what makes it different from an IT PMO.
She provided the following recommendations for prospective EPMO directors:
• If you’re being pulled up to an EPMO, understand senior management’s perspective on the problems it needs solved.
• Seriously consider the new political environment in which you’ll be operating. Are you prepared to deal with it?
• Lay out a plan to improve the quality of your portfolio analytics.
• Determine the specific benefits your program will provide and how you’ll track their realization.
