Zemanta

I’m trying our Zemanta, an add on to Windows Live Writer. Zemanta is supposedly a semantic web application that automagically enriches your blog posts with suggested links, tags, related articles, pictures, etc.

For example, if I type the phrase mars lander, Zemanta will automatically do wonderful things. Well it’s supposed to do amazing things, but I don’t see anything happening. Would the concept of Gartner make a difference. Or the happenings in Iran. Nada. The movie, The Watchmen seems pretty cool.

It’s working now as you can see. The problem was that I was running an old version of Windows Live Writer. Now let’s see if it can handle more obscure terms like meiosis, or stigmergy, or tsallis entropy. Wow, it did all of them except for stigmergy, even though stigmergy is in Wikipedia.

Hmmn… It looks as if pictures is not working. I’d love to see a picture of Dolphins, or some Transformers, or maybe even Spider-Man.

I think I’ll try it for a while…

    Hi Nick,

Thanks for checking out Zemanta. Just a couple of observations…

Zemanta is built to analyze text as it is authored, and through semantic and contextual analysis, return related articles, in-text links, tags, and rich media (images, videos, audio, maps, etc). We’re not just looking for keywords and returning results (as you’d expect from doing a Google search).

We’re actually looking at the full blog post and extracting known entities and analyzing the relationships between them. So, our software knows the difference between Mars, the candy bar and the planet.

In your post, you’ve jumped around a bit, from a topical perspective, which is not the typical blogging experience. In the real world (not to imply you don’t live in the real world ;-) , there isn’t really any contextual relevance between Iran, the Mars Lander, and Stigmergy.

No harm done, it’s just that a better test would be to go about blogging as you would naturally – and watch as we magically recommend related content.

In addition to Windows Live Writer, we also work on Movable Type, TypePad, WordPress, Blogger.com, Tumblr, Ning, and more.

Happy to brief you on our company and technolgy at your convenience. Again, thanks for checking us out.

    All the best,
