I’m just back from a vacation after the Gartner Information Security Summit. More on that later.
While on the trip, twice I had a better experience with Microsoft’s Bing search than with Google search. Both times, I has a specific goal in mind: find a hotel for the family (with three children!) with an indoor pool. In both cases, the Bing search (using the same search string used on Google) delivered a specific hotel (not a site to search hotels) with an indoor pool in the top 5 listings.
On the return trip, Bing delivered a delightful result – a hotel with an indoor water park in Columbus, Ohio. After a long day of driving, the water slides, lazy river, water basketball and indoor spa were a welcome source of exercise and fun. We played until the park shut down at 10pm which kept everyone asleep for the first five hours of driving the next day.
Will I use Bing for every search? No. Will I use Bing again? Absolutely.
I read a review that described Google search as best when you want to learn about something but Bing search is better when you want to find something specific. Based on my own experiences, I’d have to agree.
