Powerful words.

I am not so certain that management trying to extract more profit-per-wallet is the only culprit here. I will assign some to the IT departments with their complex list of requirements that cripple more than one system before taking off in the name of "hegemony" (called land-grab or power-grab in politics), to the business users who don't completely understand their job as well as they should do and just "make by" (yes, you know who you are), and to the vendors with floral promises of support / features / functions that never materialize and become too expensive or complex to deploy later.

It is a shared game. I am no siding with management, mind you, but I think there are as many complex layers here (and I can provide you examples for each) and that they all should share on the credit for the -- improper systems they have provided for us.

BTW, red plankton wave in Florida? Flourish and quite well said... nice mental image. I will award you double-points on that.
