Busy week on the M&A front:
Gartner buys Burton Group – so far, all they have told us is that Burton will be kept separate for the foreseeable future. From the security perspective, it will bring a number of very strong identity and access management and infrastructure security analysts into the Gartner research group.
EMC acquires Archer – Mark Nicolett, French Caldwell and Paul Proctor will be authoring Gartner’s First Take on this but Mark says it looks like the Archer framework will initially be layered across the RSA product line as a common policy layer.
Cisco acquires Rohati – Rohati was mostly a solution (high end, multi-gigabit hardware based granular access control) in search of a problem and has been rumored to be shutting down for months now. The technology seems to make sense as part of Cisco’s data center switch direction.
Busy decade so far, huh?
Of course, for every security vendor that disappears generally 1.1 new ones are still springing up.
