0700 – Get to analyst work room, find schedule, go to main hall to get set up for my planned “intervention” during Chris Byrne’s keynote speech
0800 – 0900 – Keynote activities
0900 – 1000 – One on one meetings
1000 – 1100 – Phone calls
1100 – 1200 – Touring the vendor exhibits
1200 – 1300 – Phone calls
1330 – 1500 – Giving a talk on threats
1500 – 1630 – One on one meetings
1630 – 1730 – Phone calls
1730 – 1830 – Giving a talk with Lawrence Orans on 4 new network security technologies
1830 – 2000 – Touring vendor showcase and talking with Gartner clients
2000 – 2100 – Driving home
2130 – 2200 – Pulling some slides together for the often rescheduled/reworked keynote session coming on Wednesday about national cybersecurity strategy
A busy day, but these things always point out how much more bandwidth there is in face to face communications over any and all alternatives. Lots of conference buzz about security as a service, cloud this and that – one 5 minute f2f talk about the real security issues can get things across that take hours on phone calls or days on email.
