I’ve been doing mostly local travel meeting with Gartner clients in the DC area this year, with the exception of a few days in San Francisco meeting with Gartner financial services clients. This week I’m in Chicago at Gartner’s Mobile and Wireless conference. This a tough year for the conference business, but attendance looks strong – I was suprised at the size of the crowd for our Sunday tutorials.
So far, a lot of the interest is around the use of Skype – and everyone agrees the stated reason is to reduce cellular international calls but the real reason is everyone wants to play with the new technology, mainly to talk to their kids and grandkids on it….

As you said, this is a tough year for the conference business. I wanted to attend the Mobile & Wireless conference, but couldn’t scrape up the registration fee, plus travel expenses.
I will be attending SANS Phoenix next month, which is in my home town. I am also getting a great break on tuition through their work-study program. I am excited to be taking Stephen Northcutt’s Security Leadership Essentials for Managers.
At any rate, it looks like you have a great program at the Wireless & Mobile conference. The sessions that looked particularly interesting to me were the ones about RFID, iPhone Forensics, and Online Society in 2020.
