The economic crisis is now a global thing and enterprises all over the world are wrestling with this issue. As Gartner’s US Symposium kicks off today in Orlando, Florida, clients are asking us what they should do.
Obviously, that is what we are going to be talking about all week. A key hint is that less is more. Consolidation, better negotiations (on new contracts) are some of the things being discussed. In many cases, some of the initiatives were already on the table and are now being accelerated (consolidating redundant or overlapping applications).
Yet in all of this, some enterprises are still fostering innovation. Somewhere in the bowels of an enterprise, the next great project or product is under development. The issue today is really how IT is helping to foster these future successes. The days of IT saying that “we have a new tool, do you want it” are over. Getting closer to the Business (units) is the mantra going forward.
Ok, time to go meet with some clients…..
