As I have been working on an update to the U.S. Midmarket HRMS Magic Quadrant, I have been surprised at what customers have been telling me about what has driven their selection of a new HRMS. For many customers, they still need to get improved quality, velocity and access to basic HR data. In addition, many have lacked integrated HR, Benefit, and Payroll solutions. I probably should not have been surprised. As much as I have focused my research on strategic human capital management and the emergence of talent management application suites, I should have realized that many organizations, especially midmarket organizations, do not have a good core foundation in place. An integrated HRMS is still a good investment, if you do not have one, because it provides a solid foundation for more implementing more strategic talent management applications.
