Don’t Let This Happen to Me; Looking to Do a Good PCC Keynote

by Jeffrey Mann  |  April 14, 2014  |  1 Comment

Like most Gartner analysts, I do quite a few presentations at our events. Sometimes, I get involved in the keynotes, which are both much more fun and much more intense. With each keynote, we want to try something new, provoke different ways of thinking and have a little more fun than we do in the […]

One More Stop Before the End of the SharePoint On Prem Line

by Jeffrey Mann  |  March 4, 2014  |  2 Comments

In October, I published a provocative research note entitled Maverick* Research: Should Microsoft Kill SharePoint? It may have been provocative at the time, but announcements from this year’s SharePoint Conference show that at least in one aspect, I was too optimistic. The note looked at the expected split coming between SharePoint on premises (which is how most users […]

Getting Sociable at Symposium Barcelona

by Jeffrey Mann  |  November 4, 2011  |  2 Comments

Gartner’s big European event starts next week in Barcelona, a welcome change from Cannes, in my own opinion. Social is inevitably a hot topic, and I look forward to speaking with many customers over the four days of the conference. I will be doing two workshops (defining a social media strategy, and creating a SharePoint […]

Closing Out the PCC Conference

by Jeffrey Mann  |  March 30, 2011  |  Submit a Comment

I’m waiting for my flight home after seeing the 2011 Portals, Content and Collaboration summit come to a close in Los Angeles. We passed the venue on to our CRM colleagues, who will continue with Customer 360 event. These conferences are always as exhausting as they are stimulating, so please allow me some fairly random […]

Cannes Symposium 2010

by Jeffrey Mann  |  November 19, 2010  |  1 Comment

Symposium is usually an intense experience, and this year was no different. This year 3300 attended the event, a 21% increase over last year. It was the biggest EMEA Symposium in the last ten years. Close to 100 analysts did 200 presentations, almost 2200 1on1 meetings, and about 40 user roundtables. Personally, I did 26 […]

Interesting analysis, but not really mine

by Jeffrey Mann  |  August 27, 2010  |  2 Comments

Last week I did a Gartner webinar on trends in social software. These are fun to do, because I get to talk to lots of people at once rather than the one on one inquiries I usually do. They also generate a fair amount of discussion and comment on blogs, Twitter and in the media, […]

TED Global Day 1

by Jeffrey Mann  |  July 13, 2010  |  2 Comments

Thank you to those who sent good wishes. I feel like my 6 minute TED University lecture went pretty well. It was extremely intimidating though. The speakers before me included a report on scientists in the Antarctic drilling thousands of years into the past to get ice cores that help us understand climate change, an […]

Internet Tech in Europe: LeWeb 2009

by Jeffrey Mann  |  December 19, 2009  |  2 Comments

It was a hectic, but fun and informative two days at entrepreneur Loic Lemeur’s LeWeb conference for high tech startups in Paris earlier this month. I was looking for exposure to new ideas and activities, and mostly achieve that. That’s me at the lower right of the picture. For those not there, Ustream has posted […]
