Broadening Your Perspective on Focus

I’m guilty.

I constantly talk to people about the importance of focus.  Focus on a key target segment.  Focus on your ideal customer profile (just last week). Don’t get distracted.  Focus. Focus. Focus.

I feel like a broken record.  And that record may be broken.

I’m not suggesting that you ignore the idea and power of focus.  Instead, I’m suggesting that you broaden your perspective to focus more effectively.  Constantly look around you for signals, ideas, threats, and parallel paths that could help you refine or shift your strategy toward one with better odds of success.

There is a great opportunity for tech vendors and tech service providers to refine their focus by broadening their perspective coming up in a few short weeks.   At the Gartner Tech Growth and Innovation Conference (#GartnerTGI), business leaders in tech firms will have the opportunity to spend 3 days refining strategies by networking with other providers–some may be competitors (or coopetitioners –if that is a word) others will be in adjacent industries—and attending sessions on your markets or new and emerging markets.  You’ll be able to draw parallels to your current experience or explore new ideas that produce new options.

There will be workshops, clinics, and roundtables (Yes, at this event, vendors are welcome in these sessions!) where interactive discussions and exercises will dive deeper into areas that can impact your business–like design thinking, blockchain, account-based marketing, and storytelling.

You’ll have the opportunity to explore the many dimensions of IoT solutions and opportunities.

Take a peak at the agenda, with a bent toward broadening your perspective.  I’m confident you’ll discover a variety of opportunities to fill your days with useful ideas, clarifications, and perspective to strengthen what you are doing today or point a path toward a new direction with exciting challenges and opportunities.

Often the best insights come from others that are not doing the same thing as us.  It comes from getting out of our office, away from the day to day grind, and getting fresh ideas.
