My Sessions at the Gartner IT Security Summit 2009

May 27th, 2009 · No Comments

Gartner’s annual big security event is being held 28 June-1 July 2009 near Washington, DC.

This event about enterprise security professionals having access to analysts and their unbiased research, and there is access to security vendors through a showfloor and solution sessions.  At least that is what my take on it is after having been quite a few times.  Its like group therapy for CISOs: you can speak your mind and ask anything you want without a CIO or a salespeople:security-doer ratio of 100:1.

Register early for the analyst 1-on-1 sessions as they can fill up quickly.  1-on-1s are 30 minute private discussion slots with a Gartner analyst.   Free for attendees.  For non-Gartner customers you can see what we can do for customers via our 30 minute inquiry calls we take every day.   There is a board up at the event showing who covers what, so you can use that to be connected with the right analyst.  E.g. see me for firewalls, IPS, web application firewalls, open source security, DMZ design, general network security, >1000cc cruiser class motorcycles, 19th century Russian military history, songs with great bass-lines and alternative Canadian music.  OK, the last few can be discussed in a place with pints and salty treats.

If you are interested in the event, you can find more information here

Here are the sessions I am speaking at during the event:

Sunday
05:30 PM-06:30 PM Security for Small and Medium-size Businesses (SMBs): Opportunities and More Opportunities
Speakers: Adam Hils, Greg Young
Session Type: Pre-Conference Tutorial

Monday
11:45 AM-12:05 PM Analyst in a Box: Intrusion Prevention Systems Magic Quadrant
Speaker: Greg Young
Session Type: Analyst in a Box

Tuesday
09:15 AM-10:15 AM
AUR: IPS and Firewall Management
Moderator: Greg Young
Session Type: Analyst/User Roundtable

I’ve got a lighter load this year to allow more time for 1-on-1s, to allow me time to tweet and blog, and to be the host for our security social media attendees.  So if you plan to blog or tweet from the Gartner event, feel free to use the hashtag #GartnerSecurity.  Stay tuned here, or via Twitter by following GartnerGreg and I’ll provide more information as we get closer to the event (such as a pre-conference social media meet-up with some of the analysts).
