The Gartner security analyst teams track a lot of companies - hundreds and hundreds of security companies. I track about 65 network firewall and related product companies alone (some I have heard from only once, other I get several inquiries about each day). For a while I was getting emails with subject lines of "YAWAF" which needed no explanation as being "Yet Another Web Application Firewall". When you work with people long enough you know how their brains work (or don’t).
I have a pet theory that we’ve used up all the good security company names and all new ones have to sound like a pharmaceutical, or have wacky capitalization and concatenation. "LockSawfT is proud to introduce.."
The pharmaceutical one is the most fun: try substituting the company name within the phrase "Doctors recommend X for male-pattern baldness. If you pregnant or think you may be pregnant, ask your Doctor about X".
Next security conference I need to create and host a game of "Medicine or ITSec Vendor?". I have a friend who is a pharmacist who could help out, when he isn’t bitter and complaining about going to school for that many years and the most common question he gets is "Where’s the Pringles?"
