(whew)
The 2008 Hype Cycle for Infrastructure Protection presents a significant change from the previous edition. Several technologies have been obsolesced, some new ones included, and some have been merged together. Like a game of king of the hill, the top of the peak of inflated expectations is somewhat unoccupied but both slopes are crowded. One side with a pack of baying safeguards of increasing hype who smell blood in your security budget, and on the other a rush of those departing quickly with their eyes lowered in shame, and reaching for sunglasses and a floppy hat.
Now my full attention is returned to completing the Enterprise Firewall Magic Quadrant, preparing a new presentation on security in the cloud, and starting up the IPS Magic Quadrant.

Dare I post on a Gartner website? Will I be automatically blocked? Are there IDS filters set to go off if Stiennon even *looks* at Gartner research?
Just kidding. But really it is so frustrating to have you talk about the process of creating a great new report and them not have access to it!
Good sales technique though.

Hi Richard –
Haven’t you heard? Some influential research firm said something definitive about IDS….
