The vote tally is in. Since the survey was posted the question of the role of the U.S. CTO has been clarified – in the Obama Administration, the CTO will be part of the economic team – a leader who can focus on America’s technology prowess. Makes me wonder why no biotech leaders are in the running for CTO?
So – who won for CTO in this poll? Larry Lessig (20%) – law professor at Stanford – whose blog features a super-cool photo of Gwen Stefanni and her new baby. Whoa – is this the guy to set America’s techno-econ policies?
(Hey, Larry — I like Gwen too – she’s cool.)
Here are some comments from respondents who supported Professor Lessig:
The Internet powered the Obama campaign and is a major technological and societal force shaping our country. Selecting a visionary that takes an Internet-centric view that can champion a future where government, business and social systems and interactions are empowered by this phenomena would be a home-run
He has the most ideas and commitment to using technology for change
So who were the also ran’s? Eric Schmidt (18%) and Bill Gates (16%).
Personally, I agree with one respondent’s comment about Mr. Gates:
Bill wants to give something back to society and he also needs something to do.
Cool – I like the idea of Bill Gates as techno-econ ambassador.
(hey, Eric, it’s pretty obvious from all the press that you’re running a campaign for this job – why?)
