Thank you for the great practical metaphor for &quot;why roles?&quot;.  The human mind needs these classification buckets as a starting point for intelligent discussion. Identity Management can be a very weighty topic and well-designed roles present a common frame of reference to bridge the technology to business gap. I would wager that someday soon roles will be seen as much of a unifying force for identity management as the tree of life was for Biology.
