The Underpowered Magic Lamp: Answering Your One Question About BPM

June 26th, 2009 · 2 Comments

If you found a magic lamp that would grant you THE definitive answer to exactly one BPM-related question, what would that question be?

Yes, this is a lamp of somewhat reduced magical powers, so forget the gold and the mansion in Nepal.  Just play along and ask it a BPM question.  And as Picasso said, the questions are more interesting than the actual answers.

I have many life-questions in general ;-) , but for BPM my question would be:
Why are managers often not interested in the processes in which their people/department participate?
This often baffles me. It seems such a logical area of attention, measurement and for manager’s intervention…

    Hi Roeland

Yes, that is a good question for the magic lamp (and my research team). Let me run out and get some more AA batteries (for the lamp… my team runs on carbohydrates). I think the answer will have to do with goal congruence, the lens with which managers view their processes, and extreme overload. Oh, there might be a dose of incompetence too, but I need to let the light weigh in on that one.
