Depending on whom I speak with, I get different views of BPM. Some see BPM as just a tooling discussion, something to use to make application development jazzier. Others see BPM as a grand and glorious vision of change and transformation. The latter might not even see the need for BPM technology in their vision. I think both of these are extreme views.
Where are you? Gartner sees BPM as a management discipline enabled by technology. We are pragmatists. What about you?
