Catalyst North America 2010 Server Virtualization Speaker Line-up

I recently confirmed all of the speakers for the server virtualization track at Catalyst North America, and am very excited about the participants. The conference runs the week of July 26th, with workshops on Monday and Tuesday and conference breakout sessions from Wednesday to Friday. Wednesday we’ll have a full day of cloud coverage, and I’m chairing the track “Virtualized Data Centers: Servers, Storage, Networks, and Security,” which runs all day on Thursday. The conference concludes on Friday with an outstanding client virtualization track. Speakers in that track include: Harry Labana – CTO – Citrix, Scott Davis – CTO – VMware, Ruben Spruijt – Technology Officer – PQR, and Jeroen van de Kamp – CTO – Login Consultants.

Here’s a rundown of the sessions and speaker line-up in the Thursday virtualized data center track:

  • Server Virtualization, Mobility, and Shared Physical Infrastructure: New Beginnings (Chris Wolf, Senior Analyst, Gartner’s Burton Group Research)
  • Breaking Down the Barriers of Email Server Virtualization (Bill Pray, Senior Analyst, Gartner’s Burton Group Research)
  • Virtualizing Tier 1 Databases with Enterprise Confidence (Rob Lowden, Director, System Infrastructure, Indiana University)
  • Virtualization’s Impact on Application Development (Rod Johnson, General Manager, SpringSource Division, VMware)
  • Open Source Server Virtualization: Today’s Practicality, Tomorrow’s Inevitability (Simon Crosby, CTO, Citrix)
  • Management and Orchestration in the Virtual Data Center: Practical Solutions (Mike Neil, General Manager, Virtualization Strategy, Windows Server Division, Microsoft)
  • Journey to the Center of the Hybrid Cloud: From the Trenches (Christopher Steffen, Principal Technical Architect, Kroll Factual Data)
  • Rethinking Storage for the Virtualized Data Center (Chad Sakac, Senior Director, VMware Strategic Alliance, EMC)
  • Selecting an Enterprise Capable Disk Array (Gene Ruth, Senior Analyst, Gartner’s Burton Group Research)
  • Demonstrating Compliance for the Virtual Data Center: Tying it all Together (Bret Hartman, CTO, RSA)
  • Debating Hypervisor Security (Trent Henry – Principal Analyst – Burton Group, Bret Hartman – CTO – RSA, Allwyn Sequeira – Senior Director – VMware, Simon Crosby – CTO – Citrix, Dale Wickizer – CTO US Public Sector – NetApp)

Recently a virtualization vendor CTO told me that Catalyst is the most intellectual conference he’s ever attended, which I take as a great endorsement of the conference speakers and session structure. Our speakers only have 25 minutes to present and then engage with the audience for 10 minutes of Q&A. We have a fast-paced format with an abundance of key architectural considerations being disseminated. Maybe I’m biased, but I get a lot of value out of attending the conference. The speakers always bring up thought provoking points that usually spill over into hallway discussions among several attendees.

If you’ve not registered yet, the early bird discount runs through May 31st. Registration and additional conference details can be found here.
