Every month I host a Gartner client roundtable focused on the challenges of managing and operating an increasingly virtual environment. While we’re primarily focused on server virtualization, we’ll likely add hosted virtual desktops somewhere down the line. Our last two meetings focused on capacity planning and chargeback and some very interesting discussions occurred as a result (especially chargeback … as an industry we generally know we need to wind up there, but getting to that point is pretty difficult and virtualization isn’t necessarily making it any easier). This month we’ll talk about storage management and for the last 2 meetings for the year we’ll delve into performance management and back-up/recovery (including DR). Right now I host sessions with US (and a smattering of UK-based) clients as well as an Australian edition. I’ll likely expand to include a Euro-centric group after our Amsterdam Data Center Summit later this month. If you’re a client and would like to participate along with several of your peers, please drop me a line at cameron.haight@gartner.com.
